Research article (journal) | Peer reviewed

Abstract

The article discusses the dual challenge of shrinking student numbers and teacher shortages, particularly in NRW. The authors explore university policy options to address the teacher shortage. They suggest intensified research on teacher motivations and study completion factors, along with better utilization of existing data. The article further examines the role of learning analytics and AI in optimizing teaching and learning. It highlights the need for improved and more targeted study application and counseling processes. Finally, it considers adapting study structures, such as reallocating credit points between subject-specific and educational science components, and reevaluating study place capacities across different teaching professions to better align with demand.
