The Institute for Analysis and Numerics (former: Institute for Computational and Applied Mathematics) has a scientific focus in applied mathematics, in particular in the area of (numerical) analysis of partial differential equations, inverse problems, imaging, bio-mathematics, and scientific computing. The institute participates at the cluster of excellence Cells in Motion (CiM), at the collaborative research center CRC 656 „Molecular Cardiovascular Imaging", has been involved in the foundation of the „European Institute of Molecular Imaging" (EIMI), the „Center for Nonlinear Science" (CENOS) and the forum „Competence for Computing in Science“ (CoCoS) of the WWU Muenster. The Institute maintains several co-operations with industry, e.g. in the area of medical imaging or water management. Research at the institute has been or is funded by several funding agencies, such as DFG, BMBF, Volkswagenstiftung, DAAD, or industry. Members of the institute continuously organize international workshops, conferences and summer schools. There are numerous national and international co-operations with leading universities and research institutions.
