The present research project builds upon and extends our earlier research on age-related differences in work motivation, work satisfaction, person-job fit and emotional experiences at work. In the third funding period we will examine age differences in control strategies at work. We expect that strategies of secondary control at work will be more often used by older workers. Moreover, the quality of secondary control strategies at work is likely to change with age. In addition to control strategies, we will study implicit motives at work. We expect the fit between explicit and implicit motives to increase with age while a misfit of implicit and explicit motives is expected to be less tolerable by older workers. The empirical findings of this research project will provide a basis for an age-differentiated work design, human resource management and training concepts.
