Abstract

The approach of material theology - as proposed by Hans Peter Hahn based on his remarks on material culture - is ethnographic and primarily descriptive. Religious and non-religious things are observed and perceived in their interaction with subjects, persons and individuals. In addition, possible attributions of meaning will be investigated. This will be done in three ways: 1) on the level of the concrete context, insofar as the things are always related to a space; 2) with regard to the use and utilization that the actors reveal when dealing with things, objects or artefacts, and 3) with a view to the various attributions of meaning that things and objects experience through the actors' dealings with them.
