Description

Project A10 deals with the question in which way Charles IV, the Emperor and King of Bohemia, asserted new concepts of norms and values and in which way the Bohemian nobility in particular reacted to his attempt of a (partial) transformation of shared values. Charles IV intended - not least because of his personal devoutness and education - to drive the nobility's practice of feuds back and to obtain peaceful reconciliation of differences as a general practice. The ceremonial and symbolic-ritual forms the Emperor used to implement his conception of governance will be studied as in the process also integrative strategies and the limits of the court's capability to integrate.
