Couponing is used all over the world for different objectives such as customer retention, market share increase or price discrimination. Initiated by the manufacturers of articles, the customers can cash these Coupons at the retail store. The accounting of the refund between the manufacturers and retail stores is usually performed by so-called clearing houses (such as arcado technologies AG). The objective of the project "Software-Based POS-Couponing" was to develop an electronic couponing method in cooperation with arcado, in order to analyze the basket of commodities of the customers at the point of sale (POS). According to the articles bought by a customer, coupons are printed on the end of the receipt. For a successful launch in the market of POS we apply the following workflow within in the scope of the project: conception of a POS-couponing scenario, specification and conception of the couponing software, conception of a data warehouse, integration of the specified software systems, implementation of a software prototype, test of the software and rollout. Nowadays the POS-couponing software of the company arcado technologies is used by numerous retailers in almost 2000 retail stores.
