EXC 1003 FF-2013-09 - Label-free detection of lipid domains in biological membranes

Basic data for this project

Type of projectSubproject in DFG-joint project hosted at University of Münster
Duration at the University of Münster01/07/2013 - 30/06/2015 | 1st Funding period

Description

The formation and assembly of lipid domains in biological membranes is of fundamental importance for a variety of cellular processes. But so far the basics of the assembly of lipid molecules into larger domains of several hundred nanometers have been shown only by using marker dyes. In order to avoid that the primary lipid properties are altered by fluorescence markers, we want to investigate for the first time with coherent Raman microscopy the assembly behavior of lipids in artificial and cellular membranes.
