The mathematical research carried out at the Cluster Mathematics Münster is regarded as a cohesive whole, with numerous connections between different mathematical disciplines. The development of mathematical methods that result in interdisciplinary scientific discoveries is a specific area of focus. This represents a distinctive approach that engenders substantial stimuli for innovation, extending beyond the field of mathematics. Guided by the three unifying principles Dynamics–Geometry–Structure, the around 200 mathematicians at the Cluster thoroughly analyse how mathematical objects dynamically evolve, consistently adopt a geometric perspective, and identify deeper, often hidden structures behind specific problems. The focus is on ten research topics, each spanning multiple mathematical fields and uniting many researchers. The Cluster is embedded in and advances an excellent research environment in Münster, interacting with several CRCs and interdisciplinary research centres. Münster is home to renowned mathematicians with outstanding research results. This is documented, for instance, by several prizes and grants such as Leibniz Prizes and ERC grants. The foundation of the Centre for Mathematics Münster in 2026 enables to expand and take the approach to the next level. The most ambitious structural goal is to implement an integrated approach across mathematical disciplines. This will require to excel individually, hire top talents in each field, connect mathematical fields and facilitate the transfer of methods. Key measures include establishing new Bridging the Gaps chairs, creating exchange platforms, and introducing emerging projects and sabbatical programmes. The early-career programmes, designed to attract top mathematicians and guide them to early scientific independence and successful careers, are central to the hiring strategy. As diverse perspectives are crucial for successfully implementing the integrated approach, equity, diversity, and internationalisation are emphasised.
