Profile

In 1999, the institutes of Prof. Dr. Dieter Ahlert (Department of Distribution and Trade), Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. mult. Heribert Meffert (Institute of Marketing) and Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Klaus Backhaus (Institute of Business-to-Business Marketing) joined together to form the Marketing Center Muenster (MCM), thus creating one of the most distinguished competence centers for market-orientated management in Germany. In 2003, the Institute of Marketing was assigned to Prof. Dr. Manfred Krafft. In 2010, Prof. Dr. Thorsten Hennig-Thurau established the Department of Marketing and Media Research, and in 2012, the Institute of Value-based Marketing of Prof. Dr. Thorsten Wiesel also became part of the MCM. After the spatial integration of the three founding institutes, their libraries were merged in 2000. The resulting MCM library is probably the largest marketing library in the German-speaking area. In honor of Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Heribert Meffert, now an emeritus professor, the MCM library was renamed the Heribert Meffert Library. The Heribert Meffert Library’s collection currently consists of approximately 15.700 books and over 100 academic journals. As well as an extensive portfolio of German literature based on the institutes’ core competencies, the collection includes a large variety of international books and journals.
