Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a notion that has become synonymous with technological advances in computer science, primarily based on some form of machine learning. In reality, the field of AI research constitutes so much more than what common conception usually ascribes AI to be. This talk provides a brief history of artificial intelligence research from the field's inception in 1956 to today. We also consider what makes up AI and how this influences what we do in artificial intelligence research.
