Abstract

The effectiveness of sales and operations planning (S&OP) in achieving a demand-supply balance is challenged in current uncertain business environments. In this paper, a scoping literature review is conducted to identify the types of uncertainties that should be considered in S&OP and suitable approaches how to deal with them are proposed. The review highlights the importance of explicitly considering internal organization and internal supply chain uncertainties within S&OP. Additionally, adapting the S&OP planning frequency and planning horizon are suggested as possible solutions to address these uncertainties.
