Research article (journal) | Peer reviewedThis article is dealing with similarities and competitions between poetsand legal experts, as they emerged in late medieval Italy. Using the novella X, 4of Boccaccio’s Decameron as an example, it will be shown how closely legal practiceand novelistic narration are interwoven and how this entanglement gives rise toa profoundly critical perspective of law on the part of literature.
