Abstract

Desmopressin causes an increase of von Willebrand factor in plasma, leading to an optimization of hemostasis. Desmopressin's side-effects are mainly vasodilation with subsequent hypotension and a marked reduction in diuresis. The usefulness of desmopressin in patients with renal insufficiency and / or coronary artery disease are discussed.
