Abstract

The situation on spatial information is one of fragmented datasets, gaps in availability, lack of harmonisation between datasets at different scales, and duplication of data acquisition. These problems make it difficult to identify, access and use geographic datasets on European level. Providers of geographic information in Europe have to deliver their contents relating to emerging specifications used for the Infrastructure for Spatial Information in Europe (INSPIRE). Delivering existing contents to these specifications requires some form of schema mapping. We present an analysis of schema mapping tools, propose an architecture for flexible data provision, and introduce an implementing prototype. Results account for schema mapping requirements within and beyond the INSPIRE context.
