Grenzgänge. Androgynie – Wahnsinn – Utopie im Romanwerk von Hudā Barakāt

Abstract

Der Band „Grenzgänge" versteht sich als Beitrag sowohl zur angewandten Literaturanalyse als auch zur Literatur- und Kulturtheorie. Als erste umfassende Studie zum literarischen Werk der libanesischen Autorin Hudā Barakāt (*1952) fokussiert er in Einzelanalysen ihrer ersten drei Romane jeweils einen zentralen Aspekt: Androgynie, Liebe und Wahnsinn sowie Utopie. Quer dazu analysiert die Studie diese Aspekte als existenzielle Grenzsituationen. Im Kontext des ‘spatial turn' entwickelt sie ein Konzept von ‘Grenzgängen' als Instrument der Literaturanalyse, das, indem es Konzepte aus unterschiedlichen Disziplinen verbindet, die verschiedensten physischen wie abstrakten Räume zu fassen vermag. "Grenzgänge" is conceived as a contribution to both close-reading literature analysis as well as literary and cultural theory. The first comprehensive study on the work of the Lebanese author Hudā Barakāt (b.1952), it focuses on one respective key aspect in her first three novels: androgyny, love and madness, and utopia. As an overarching framework, these aspects are analyzed as existential borderline situations the protagonists have to cope with. Taking up insights from the ‘spatial turn', the study develops a concept of ‘Grenzgänge' that, by combining ideas from a variety of disciplines, is capable of comprehending a diverse array of both physical and conceptual spaces.
