Abstract

The influence of the concentration of the linear carbonates in a LiPF6-based mixed organic carbonate electrolyte on the electrolyte degradation at elevated temperatures was investigated using a novel experimental set-up. The HF formation upon the salt decomposition at 60°C was monitored with spectroscopic ellipsometry by measuring the etching rate of a silicon dioxide thin-film in the electrolyte. The rate of the SiO2 film thickness decrease is proportional to the concentration of the linear carbonate solvent in the electrolyte.
