Abstract

The surgical management of tibial plateau fractures in geriatric patients presents relevant challenges compared with younger patient populations. In addition to fracture-specific aspects, these particularly include patient-related factors, such as osteoporosis, multimorbidity and cognitive impairment, all of which can influence the interpretation of indications, operative strategy and postoperative management. This review article provides an overview of the key considerations for osteosynthesis of geriatric tibial plateau fractures and summarizes the relevant influencing factors that should be taken into account.
