Abstract

This chapter provides readers with a rationale for the volume and explains the content of each section. It traces the semantic roots of business and deals as specific instruments, contrasting them with the term and meaning of education. In doing so, it reveals the dilemma of the connection between business and education. The two fields follow different, contradictory principles. The semantic traces open up the thinking space presented in this Volume. The specific contributions are presented by describing the concept of the publication and its three main parts. These are Approaches, Theories and Paradigms, Educational Issues and Challenges, and Critical Directions in the Study of the Business of Education. The volume aims to explore the rich and multifaceted topic of the business of education in a broad, international and interdisciplinary manner. It systematically presents current knowledge on central themes surrounding the field of education as a global business sector.
