Abstract

The ways in which human beings interpret what phenomenologists have called “the Holy” reflects their self-understanding in relation to the world, their role, responsibility, and expectations. This entry to the Encyclopedia of the Anthropocene focusses on religions and ecology and the religious conflict potential arguing that the ways in which religions react to the two major challenges of the Anthropocene — preserving ecological systems and maintaining peace — are interlinked.
