Arnika gegen die vernachlässigte Tropenkrankheit kutane Leishmaniasis: Eine neue, vielversprechende Indikation.

Abstract

Zusammenfassung Arnikablüten (Arnicae flos Ph. Eur., von Arnica montana L., Asteraceae) und ihre Zubereitungen werden in der Phytotherapie als traditionelle Arzneimittel zur Linderung der Beschwerden bei stumpfen Traumata und entzündlichen Prozessen des Bewegungsapparates verwendet. In neuesten Arbeiten haben wir jetzt eine sehr gute Wirksamkeit der Arnikatinktur (Ph. Eur.) gegen die in tropischen Regionen weit verbreitete kutane Leishmaniose, eine durch protozoale Erreger der Gattung Leishmania hervorgerufene und durch Insekten übertragene Parasitose, entdeckt. Diese wurde in umfangreichen In-vitro- und In-vivo-Experimenten eingehend dokumentiert und charakterisiert, sodass jetzt auch eine erste klinische Studie mit humanen Patienten durchgeführt und erfolgreich abgeschlossen werden konnte. Diese gibt Anlass zu der Hoffnung, dass Arnikatinktur bald als neue effektive, sichere und erschwingliche Therapie etabliert werden kann. Abstract Arnica flowers (Arnicae flos, Ph. Eur.) from the perennial plant Arnica montana (Asteraceae), and their preparations are used in phytotherapy as traditional medicine to relieve the symptoms of blunt trauma and inflammatory processes of the musculoskeletal system. Recent studies have revealed that Arnica tincture (Ph. Eur.) is highly effective against cutaneous leishmaniasis. This disease, which is widespread in tropical regions, is caused by protozoan pathogens of the genus Leishmania that are transmitted by insects. The efficacy of Arnica tincture has been thoroughly documented and characterised in extensive in vitro and in vivo experiments. The results of these experiments enabled an initial clinical study with human patients that was conducted and successfully completed. Based on the findings, there are high prospects of Arnica tincture establishing itself as an effective, safe and affordable therapy in the near future.
