Abstract

Since several years, an increasing number of FinTech start-ups enter the market of the financial industry and offer products or services in business areas that are traditionally occupied by established banks and insurance companies. By using a comprehensive database, this FinTech development in Germany will be investigated with a focus on three core elements: the business area, the business model pattern and the revenue model. On the one hand, it will be shown with which kind of these core elements FinTech start-ups enter the market and which of them are often used by these young companies. On the other hand, there is a focus on the evaluation of the relations between the core elements business area, business model pattern and revenue model with the objective to identify special schemes of combinations that occur frequently.
