The Münster Isotope Research Center (MIRC) provides the possibility for timely and diverse isotope analyses for earth and planetary scientists. The MIRC hosts three different laboratories for isotope geochemistry, located in the Institut für Mineralogie, the Institut für Planetologie, and the Institut für Geologie und Paläontologie. Isotope research in the three institutes ranges from the geological and planetary to the atmospheric, life, and marine sciences. On a collaborative basis, the MIRC offers access to state-of-the-art instruments and laboratories. The logistic and scientific infrastructure assures optimum support of internal and external users from the initial to final phase of their projects. Collectively, a wide range of stable (H, C, N, O, S, Mg, Ca, Cr, Ni, Mo, Ag) and radiogenic isotope systems can be applied (Rb-Sr, Sm-Nd, Lu-Hf, U-Pb, Hf-W, U-Th-Pa-Ra), as well as compound-specific stable carbon isotope analysis. MIRC users can either characterize their materials on site, or measure isotope ratios on previously characterized materials. Expert guidance during all steps of the analyses guarantees constant data quality, and provides support during interpretation and publication of the results.
