Description

The goal of the workshop was to explore the interrelationship between linguistic typology and language documentation, in both directions. It consisted of 3 Sessions with different foci: 1) discovering unusual structural data; 2) working with naturalistic primary data; 3) problems of dealing with meaning in typology and documentation. Seven invited speakers plus six further speakers selected on the strength of their abstracts made high-quality presentations on these topics. A special feature of the workshop was the involvement of linguists from countries with a high number of endangered languages who are actively engaged in, or preparing to get involved in, language documentations. A scholarship program was advertised especially for this audience, and a dozen linguists from all over the world won a scholarship. Their presence enriched both the workshop and the ensuing conference of the Association for Linguistic Typology (ALT). Proceedings of this workshop will not be published in an edited volume.
