Description

The Brazilian National Institute for Space Research (INPE) and the Institute for GeoInformatics (IfGI) have loosely cooperated for several years, e.g., in two ALFA projects, continual research contacts, conference organization, exchange of courses, and student mobility measures. As there is a strong overlap in research goals, activities, and interests, and an equally strong complementarity in skills and appraoches, we are targeting a more substantial and topically focused cooperation. Successful cooperation requires personal acquaintance and trust at several levels, which is why we are applying for a ten day joint research seminar of the two groups in Brazil, with the main goal to create a shared research agenda and hammer out a program to pursue it. The bilateral event took place March 10-19, 2009, on the premises and in the neighbourhood of INPE, Brazil. It represents a continuation at the researchers level of several high level meetings held at Münster in fall 2006 and spring 2008.
