Description

Objectives 1. Study the characteristics & needs of middle-aged & older adults in Europe regarding multimodal physical activity participation & healthy ageing knowledge & build upon an existing evidence-based intervention that was piloted in Ireland, so that it is suitable for EU participants & fitness professionals. 2. Develop an 8-week digital physical activity & health education programme, app & platform to improve functional healthy ageing & evaluate same in European participants. Activities 1. Comprehensive assessment of users needs. 2. Revise existing evidence-based pilot programme in Ireland and modify it with new content so it is specific to the needs of European middle-aged & older adults & fitness professionals. 3. Develop a person-centred app and platform to house the "AgeWell" PA & health education programme. 4. Conduct a pilot test in Ireland of the app and platform & make modifications based on same. 5. Conduct an 8-week trial in 100 EU participants. Impact 1. Qualitative and quantitative research papers regarding the users needs assessment and the results of the project. 2. Development of an 8-week on-demand multimodal PA & health education app, platform and programme to roll out across Europe. 3. Significant increase in multimodal PA & health education participation in middle-aged & older adults in Europe by engaging in the actual "AgeWell" programme, but also by using the resources we will share throughout our 2 year social media campaign.
