Description

How does political elite communication affect citizens? And how does the public influence political and social elites? These are some of the core questions for political scientists in general, and Political Communication research in particular. Yet, analysing the reciprocal influences between elite communication and public opinion is still faced with several empirical and methodological challenges given that linking data from the elite and the mass level turns out tobe a highly complicated task (see for general insights De Vreese et al., 2017). The aim of the collaborative research project is twofold: 1) identifying commonalties in elite and public communication that enable us to link different sources of communication (i.e., what da we link?) 2) identifying mechanisms and developing tools for linking different kinds of data sources (i.e., how do we link?).
