CRC 1450 - A04: Metabolic targeting of bacteria through complex carbohydrates

Basic data for this project

Type of projectSubproject in DFG-joint project hosted at University of Münster
Duration at the University of Münster01/01/2021 - 31/12/2024 | 1st Funding period

Description

We aim to develop reliable diagnostic tools that enable the differentiation between sterile inflammation and bacterial infection. Therefore, we will design radiolabelled specific imaging probes based on oligosaccharides which are selectively taken up by bacteria. These tracers will be tested in vitro as well as in vivo with gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial strains providing us information on the possible applications in clinical practice. In mouse models we will follow bacterial infection non-invasively over time and analyse the interaction of bacteria with immune cells using novel tracers developed in this and other projects in this CRC.
