CRC TRR 170 - B06: Comparing the (late) accretion history of Mars and Earth – timing, sources, dynamics

Basic data for this project

Type of projectSubproject in DFG-joint project hosted at University of Münster
Duration at the University of Münster01/01/2020 - 31/12/2024 | 1st Funding period

Description

The dynamical evolution of the solar system is recorded in the elemental and isotopic composition of asteroids and planets. In this project, we will investigate the nature and origin of planetary building blocks through time by obtaining Ti, Ni, Nd, and Sm isotopic data for martian meteorites and a selection of so far uninvestigated chondrites and achondrites. Particular emphasis will be on genetic heritage and accretion history of Mars, and the variations of outer to inner solar system materials in the accretionary mix of the terrestrial planets through time. The overall aim of the project is to enable an integrated self-consistent dy-namical model that accounts for the chemical and isotopic composition of the terrestrial planets throughout accretion.
