The extension of the axon requires an expansion of the cell membrane by the exocytosis of specialized vesicles. We have identified the GEF βPix as a novel regulator of neuronal polarity and shown that it activates the Rho GTPase TC10 that promotes axon formation through its interaction with the exocyst complex. In our project, we will use high-resolution live cell imaging and optogenetic manipulation to understand how βPix and TC10 regulate membrane dynamics during neuronal polarization through the exocyst complex.
