Description

With NeutroTrain, the Integrated Research Training Group (IRTG) of CRC TRR332, we envision to create a sustainable and visible platform for training next-generation neutrophil researchers, equipping them with the skills, a network, and perspectives to become future leaders in the field of inflammation and immunity. NeutroTrain will be an essential element of CRC TRR332 as it will offer a structured doctoral programme to natural science and medical doctoral (MD) candidates and will further strengthen the scientific network across the geographical locations of CRC TRR332 partner sites. To comprehensively study the complex dynamics of neutrophil maturation, trafficking and function within the various tissues, the doctoral candidates will participate in a topic-tailored doctoral programme within CRC TRR332 covering unique aspects of neutrophil biology such as complex genetic mouse models and omics approaches, including appropriate bioinformatics tools, as well as highly sophisticated bio-imaging applications under in vivo and in vitro conditions. Accordingly, the overall curriculum of NeutroTrain will consist of Basic Principle Seminars and Advanced Method Courses adapted to the needs of its doctoral candidates. This will be complemented by lab rotations in CRC TRR332 partner groups, the NeutroTrain Lecture Series, and Annual Retreats. In order to prepare the IRTG members for their future challenges, Transferable Skills Courses will be offered regularly throughout the year. In addition, individual Thesis Advisory Committees (TACs) will be assigned to all doctoral candidates for critical guidance. Commitment to this programme will be mandatory based on a jointly signed agreement between doctoral candidates and the respective supervisors. The highly motivated PIs, the inter-professional NeutroTrain board with profound IRTG experience, and the availability of state-of-the-art online communication tools, will be essential for the success of NeutroTrain, providing optimal support to doctoral candidates to be trained in a cutting-edge scientific environment forming a new generation of scientific leaders in the area of neutrophil biology and innate immunity. At the same time, NeutroTrain members will embody the bottom-up scientific network interconnecting the NeutroTrain groups. This will further support the project leaders and the CRC TRR332 research consortium as a whole.
