In Project B13, we are exploring the control of magnetization dynamics by orbital torques from electrical currents and phonons. We will address magnon propagation in the presence of current-induced torques stemming from the orbital Hall effect and magnon damping by orbital pumping. In a joint theoretical/experimental effort, we will explore the phonon-induced orbital torques stemming from elliptically polarized phonons with orbital angular momentum and develop a quantitative theory of phonon-induced torques in linear and non-linear regimes.
