Neutrophils are immune cells with the potential to invade almost any tissue compartment. Using live cell imaging, we will study neutrophils when they penetrate (a) endothelial cell surfaces during transcellular diapedesis, and (b) mast cell surfaces during mast cell intracellular trap formation. We focus on the roles of adhesion, plasma membrane and actin cortex properties for neutrophil invasion. This work aims at identifying molecular or mechanical pathways that underly critical cell-cell interactions during immune responses.
