About the distinction
The GAPS Dissertation Award 2024 goes to Anika Gerfer (Universität Münster) for her dissertation “Jamaican Creole in Global Reggae and Dancehall Performances: Language Use, Perceptions, Attitudes.” The dissertation was supervised by Profs. Ulrike Gut, Dagmar Deuber, and Edgar W. Schneider. Anika Gerfer will receive the award during this year’s annual conference in Zurich.

The GAPS Dissertation Award is granted once every two years and recognizes an outstanding doctoral thesis that advances and expands in an exceptional manner the analytical and/or theoretical approach to Anglophone literatures around the world, to the study of varieties of English, or to other postcolonial cultural forms, practices, and media.
