Der Deutsche Sportbund hat seit 1953 alle zwei Jahre die Carl-Diem-Plakette für eine herausragende sportwissenschaftliche Arbeit in deutscher Sprache vergeben. Nach der Fusion von Deutschem Sportbund und Nationalem Olympischen Komitee zum Deutschen Olympischen Sportbund (DOSB) 2006 führt der DOSB diesen Wettbewerb als "DOSB-Wissenschaftspreis" fort.
