Die Dissertationspreise dienen der Förderung weiterer Forschungsarbeiten des Preisträgers. Sie sind mit je 7.500 Euro dotiert. Das Preisgeld kann auch zur Finanzierung eines in Münster stattfindenden Kolloquiums über das preisgekrönte Forschungsthema verwandt werden. Ausgezeichnet wird der Verfasser der jahresbesten Dissertation aus den einzelnen Fakultäten. Die Auswahl des Preisträgers erfolgt durch das Rektorat auf Vorschlag einer vom Rektorat eingesetzen Jury.
