Zusammenfassung

No data were available on the effect on implant-supported dentures on the oral health-related quality of life in ectodermal dysplasia. The aim of this paper is to present implant-supported prosthetic restoration concepts for different forms of ectodermal dysplasia and to show their relation to oral health-related quality of life. Patients with ectodermal dysplasia and non-tooth contact and the desire for implant-prosthetic rehabilitation were questioned about their individual oral health-related quality of life using the OHIP-14G questionnaire before the start of therapy. Another survey was conducted 4 weeks after completion of the prosthetic restoration. A total of 10 patients were included in the study. The overall average OHIP-14 score +/- SD over all 10 participants before the start of therapy was 29.7 +/- 14.7 points (range: 11-51). Four weeks after completion of the prosthetic treatment, an average OHIP score +/- SD of 3.3 +/- 2.7 points was measured (range: 0-9). In the group of patients presented here, a considerable gain in oral health-related quality of life was determined by the insertion of implants, regardless of the selected prosthetic restoration.
