Past and present are opposed in Hebr 1:1-2a. In the past God spoke to the ancestors through the prophets, now he speaks to “us,” to the ingroup of Hebrews, literally “in/through son.” A central question of this paper is, how is “he speaks to us in/through son” to be understood in relation to the biblical quotations and allusions that follow?
