Patient satisfaction in psychosomatic rehabilitation - occurrence and influence of socio-demographic, motivational and clinical patient characteristics

Objectives: Main objective was to assess patient satisfaction and potential influencing factors in psychosomatic rehabilitation. Methods: An anonymous, cross-sectional survey was performed by questionnaire with patients undergoing psychosomatic rehabilitation at the end of their inpatient stay. Patient satisfaction, socio-demographic and disease-related parameters, as well as psychosocial impairments, life satisfaction and rehabilitation-related motivation were assessed. Results: 276 patients answered, 71% women, the average age was 50 years. A high level of distress could be seen from the BSI- and SF-12-Scores. The mean of the ZUF-8-Sumscore of 26,37 is in the upper section of the score range. Women were significantly more satisfied than men, satisfaction increased with higher age. In the multiple regression a significant relationship was confirmed for age, duration of complaints, mental state at the end of rehabilitation, but also for rehabilitation-related self-efficacy and concerns towards social disadvantages through the rehabilitation. Conclusions: Concerns and lack of motivation should be picked out as a central issue and actively tackled.
