A Discourse and Corpus Linguistic Analysis of the 2023 French Pension Reform Discourse

Zusammenfassung

The current project builds on both established and recent discourse linguistic approaches, including those of Spitzmüller/Warnke (2008/2011), Weiland (2020), and Harjus (2023). It aims to examine the French Pension Reform of 2023 from both discourse and corpus linguistic perspectives. To address diverse viewpoints and target groups by age and location, the corpus includes not only newspaper articles and their comments but also YouTube videos and their comments. This multimodal approach covers both traditional and newer media, filling a research gap often noted in Romance linguistics discourse studies. The analysis will be conducted as a hermeneutic quantitative-qualitative process on a self-compiled corpus. The YouTube corpus comprises approximately 3,600 videos and 500,000 comments, while the newspaper corpus is expected to include between 3,000 and 5,000 articles and their comments.
