As stated in the mission letter from Ursula von der Leyen to Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President-designate for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, the EUDI Wallet will enable businesses to speed up and simplify operations and reduce administrative costs. With those words in mind, the consortium Wallet Ecosystem for Business & Payment Use cases, Identification, Legal person representation and Data sharing (WE BUILD) has been formed. We understand that Europe needs to strengthen its competitiveness and that innovation, digitalisation and support for businesses are key enablers for this. Digital identity is a fundamental building block for digitalisation. The real value however comes when digital identity supports, improves and creates new processes. Although we will put considerable effort on improving the European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDIW) ecosystem, the architectural reference framework, and the reference wallet, WE BUILD has a strong focus on being use case driven. We have gathered thirteen (13) use cases, specifically in the areas of businesses and payments, where the ecosystem will contribute to making life easier for businesses and citizens. WE BUILD has a balanced mix of Member States, public entities, SMEs, large European companies and global companies that are all leaders in the digital identity ecosystem. Many of the associated partners are companies that will contribute with technical tools and know-how. This ensures a stable consortium, where input from all relevant parts of the ecosystem is embedded in the project. A large number of the partners come from the current Large Scale Pilots (LSPs), but we are also joined by several additional organisations that want to and will play a role in the development of the EUDIW ecosystem.
